Minutes of Meeting, 1-16-05

 

Those present:  Mary Peck, Susan Hargett, Iva McClure, Judy Tiffin, Betty Champion, Bill McDonald, Jim Ingrum, Jerry Dowd, Lee Freeman, Hester Cope, Billy Warren

 

  1. Billy Warren began the proceedings of HPI’s annual meeting by welcoming everyone and thanking them for attending.

     
  2. These items were distributed to everyone present:
    1. A listing of HPI’s accomplishments in 2004, and
    2. A listing of HPI’s goals for 2005.

       
  3. Billy Warren introduced Nancy Gonce who presented a very informative program on the proposed Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area.  It was extremely well received by all in attendance.  Everyone offered encouragement to Nancy and her group in pursuing the goal of having the Muscle Shoals area gain this prestigious designation.

     
  4. Billy Warren thanked Charlotte Carr for making a special effort to attend today’s meeting so she could assist Nancy Gonce with the power point presentation.

     
  5. This slate of members for HPI’s Board of Directors, Class of 2007 (term to expire December 31, 2007) was presented for approval:
    1. Vince Brewton
    2. Betty Champion
    3. Charlotte Dean
    4. Billy Warren
    5. Carolyn Waterman

       

Bill McDonald made the motion that the slate be approved.  Jerry Dowd seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously.

 

  1. HPI presented the Capital Award to the following:
    1. Michael Cole – Nolen Cole Gallery (Commercial)
    2. Andrea and Tommy Coats – (Residential)
    3. Ronald Pettus, in absentia – (Individual)
    4. Dick Jordan – (Individual)

       

There was rousing applause for each recipient as Billy Warren thanked them for their contributions to historic preservation in Florence and Lauderdale County.

 

  1. Billy Warren complimented the Shoals Environmental Alliance for its sponsorship of Smart Growth Forum II and pledged HPI’s support toward its goals.  Nancy Muse, representing the Alliance, thanked HPI for its support and asked for that support to continue.  She encouraged everyone to visit these web sites to learn more about Smart Growth.

  2. Billy Warren encouraged everyone:
    1. To sign up for membership in HPI,
    2. To purchase a VHS or DVD of “Follow the River”
    3. To purchase the audio CD of “Listen to the River”

       
  3. Billy Warren thanked Betty Champion, chairman of the refreshment committee, and everyone who helped her on the committee.  He invited everyone in attendance to enjoy the refreshments.
