  2. Billy Warren displayed a large color-coded map that shows all historic districts in the city of Florence.  All are on the National Register of Historic Places except one:  the East Florence Historic District is on the State Register of Historic Places.  Billy noted that a few structures are not in historic districts but are listed individually.  Examples are:  the Sweetwater Plantation and the Martin-Bounds House.  All told, there are 682 structures in Florence listed on the National Register.  Billy expressed deep gratitude to Robert “Scooter” Muse and Ben Smith, staff members in the City Planning Department, for allowing him to work with them to create the map.  Small-size copies (8.5” x 11”) were distributed to everyone present.

  3. Nancy Sanford, using a laptop computer and an LCD projector, demonstrated the new digital archives that are being created at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.  She distributed copies of a brochure that describes in detail the types of documents that are accepted for this archival collection and encouraged everyone to take full advantage of this new resource.
