GOALS – 2008

 

  1. To present the annual Capital Award for outstanding preservation efforts in 2008 and, if applicable, the Junior Capital Award to a young person (under 21 years old) who does an outstanding preservation project.

     
  2. To continue to serve as the fiscal agent for the Forks of Cypress preservation project, the FDR preservation project, and the Camp Westmoreland Historic Marker project.

     
  3. To conduct walking tours of historic neighborhoods for students and adults.

     
  4. To continue the annual gift subscription to Historic Preservation magazine to the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.

     
  5. To continue to encourage the development of additional historic districts in Florence and the development of the full potential of existing districts.

     
  6. To stage the third Cemetery Stroll at the Florence City Cemetery in April, 2008.

     
  7. To continue to build the collection of books on historic preservation topics at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library through the donation of memorials.

     
  8. To appear before groups, clubs and churches and to work with media outlets in the promotion of historic preservation in Florence and Lauderdale County.

     
  9. To encourage attendance at the monthly meetings of the Board of HPI by all members of the organization, not just Board members.

     
  10. To continue the promotion and sales of the award-winning video, “Follow the River:  A History of Florence and Lauderdale County.”

     
  11. To work aggressively for the establishment of a Florence-Lauderdale County Archival Center

     
  12. To compile and maintain a list of craftspeople (carpenters, brick masons, antiques repairers, upholsterers, etc.) who can be recommended to people who are restoring properties, furniture, etc.

     
  13. To continue the creation of a virtual tour of all historic districts in Florence by adding photographs, official names and construction dates of each structure within the districts to HPI’s website (www.florencehistorical.org).

     
  14. To work collaboratively with local organizations (e.g., the Florence Historic Board, Florence Main Street, etc.) that espouse goals similar to HPI’s.
