HISTORIC MARKER APPLICATION

 

Criteria:

 

Structure must be at least 50 years old.

 

 

Structure must retain its original architectural qualities.

Significant changes shall not have been made in the façade.

Any changes in the façade shall be compatible with the architectural style of the structure.

 

 

Structure and property must be maintained and in good repair.  Failure to maintain shall result in loss of the right to display the marker.

 

 

Property must:

Have had significant influence on the growth of Florence or Lauderdale County, or

Exemplify a distinctive architectural style.

 

 

Qualification for each structure or property must be approved by the H.P.I. Historical Marker Committee.

 

 

Application:

 

Application for historical marker shall be made to the H.P.I. Historical Marker Committee.  The application shall include:

A completed application form.

A current color photograph (front view).

 

 

Purchase of Marker:

 

Marker must be purchased from H.P.I. and paid in full prior to printing the name of the structure and date of its construction on the marker.  Printing will take approximately two to four weeks.

            

            Price of Marker:

                H.P.I. Members          $25.00

                Non-H.P.I. Members $35.00 (This includes a one-year membership to H.P.I.)  

 

Display of Marker:

 

The Marker must be displayed on structure in the following manner:

            

It shall be attached to the wall to the left of the front door when facing the structure if wall space permits; otherwise, it shall be on the right side.

For uniformity, the bottom of the marker shall be approximately five feet above the door threshold.
