ACCOMPLISHMENTS
– 2007
- Presented the Capital Award for outstanding
preservation efforts to Davis Faulkner (Junior), University of North
Alabama/Rogers Hall (Institutional/Governmental), David Mackay (Individual),
Robert Bunch (Commercial).
- Continued to serve as the fiscal agent for the Forks
of Cypress project, the Riverview Drive Historic District project, and the
FDR Statue project.
- Accepted the responsibility of serving as the fiscal
agent for Davis Faulkner’s restoration of the Bailey Springs Cemetery and
the erection of a historic marker at Camp Westmoreland.
- Continued numerous walking tours of historic
neighborhoods for school groups and groups of adults, including Youth
Leadership Shoals, as well as those who participated in tours sponsored by
the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism Bureau.
- Presented the annual subscription to Historic
Preservation to the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.
- Presented memorial books related to historic
preservation to increase that particular collection at the
Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.
- Coordinated the sale of “Follow the River” in both VHS
and DVD formats and an audio CD, “Listen to the River.”
- Appeared before civic clubs to promote historic
preservation.
- Continued the promotion of an archival center for
Florence and Lauderdale County.
- Hosted the second Cemetery Stroll in the Florence City
Cemetery on April 28, 2007.
- Assisted Florence’s Urban Forestry Department in
generating ideas for preserving trees in historic districts
- Went on record in support of a secure,
climate-controlled art museum in downtown Florence.
- Participated in planning the Shoals gathering of the
Alabama Historical Association in April, 2008.
- Contributed two articles on local history each month
to Kidsville News, the newspaper provided free to every student in
grades K-6 in Lauderdale and Colbert Counties.
- Contributed financially toward the repainting of the
facades of two commercial buildings in the Downtown Florence Historic
District.
- Posted design guidelines related to residential
structures located in historic districts on these websites:

- Reprinted 7,000 copies of the downtown walking tour
brochure in cooperation with the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism Bureau.
- Continued the support of the restoration of cemeteries
(e.g., the Wilson Family Cemetery next to the Blackberry Trail Golf Course)
and the establishment of a database of gravesites in Florence and Lauderdale
County.
- Pursued the airing of “Follow the River” on Alabama
Public Television.
- Supported the restoration of the Buffler House in St.
Florian.
