University of North Alabama Campaign for Rogers Hall click on image to enlarge Situated at the apex of Court Street with a commanding view of the City of Florence, Rogers Hall is a magnificent historical treasure entrusted to the University of North Alabama. Constructed of the finest materials and exceptional workmanship, Rogers Hall is an extraordinary example of a rectangular three-story Greek Revival mansion that was acquired by the University in 1948. Since its acquisition, the University has used Rogers Hall for a number of purposes ranging from a guest home for prospective faculty and senior staff members to the home for the Office of Alumni Relations, University of North Alabama Foundation, Annual Giving and Donor Research, Shoals Economic Development Authority, and an elegant venue for a variety of important University and community functions. Like Coby Hall, the other magnificent antebellum mansion owned by the University, Rogers Hall is visited frequently as part of historical tours. Similarly, it has the distinction of having troops of the northern and confederate armies camped at various times on its grounds. As such, Rogers Hall has become an exceptional resource for and integral aspect of the University and the community. Given its age, historical importance, and extensive use, Rogers Hall and its surrounding lawn and gardens warrant a great deal of special attention and care. This extends to such areas as building maintenance, repairs, and replacements, as well as to historically correct furnishings and finishings. What few or any persons could foresee at the time that UNA acquired Rogers Hall in 1948 was more than a half century of declining legislative support from the State and the associated difficult budgetary challenges faced by the University. One area of particular relevance to Rogers Hall has been the relative absence of State provided bond funding, which has resulted in a substantial amount of deferred maintenance on the UNA campus. Regrettably, this extends to Rogers Hall, which is now overdue for an infusion of funds necessary for its appropriate refurbishment and historical restoration. As a result, a Campaign for Rogers Hall was launched on January 1, 2006, for the purpose of creating a pool of funds to help with the refurbishment and restoration of Rogers Hall. Associated contributions are being leveraged by funds committed by the University on a $1 raised to $3 matched basis. Additionally, the Campaign hopes to raise charitable contributions to create an endowment from which earnings will be used to pay for the continuing repair and maintenance of Rogers Hall in the future.
